Full & New Moon Circles at House of AUM

A nature-based, community practice of reflection, renewal, and belonging

Full moon rising over trees during a House of AUM Moon Circle in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

At House of AUM, our full and new moon circles are simple on purpose. They aren’t performances or passing trends—they’re quiet containers where we meet the moon and one another—regularly, gently, and with respect for the living world we’re part of.

These circles rest within a long lineage of nature-based spirituality. Many traditions honor the Wheel of the Year—a way of seeing time as a circle rather than a straight line. Instead of rushing from one finish line to the next, the Wheel invites us into seasonal cycles: growth and rest, sowing and reaping, light and dark, action and integration. Within this rhythm, moon gatherings offer a steady pulse—two touch points each lunar month—to reflect, reset, and reconnect.

A note on language: in some lineages, the seasonal festivals are called Sabbats, while the lunar gatherings are called Esbats. We simply call ours moon circles—open, grounded, and welcoming to all who wish to connect with the natural rhythms of life and participate with sincerity.

The Rhythm of the Moons

The moon shows us that change is normal. Waxing and waning are not problems to solve; they’re evidence of life moving. When we align with the lunar rhythm, we practice meeting ourselves as we are—without judgment, without urgency—so that our actions arise from clarity, not reactivity.

We also honor that each moon occurs within a zodiac sign, and that this astrological context can flavor the themes of a circle—earthy or airy, inward or expressive. We don’t treat astrology as a rulebook; rather, we simply recognize that each moon carries its own unique energy and influence.

New Moon: Planting the Invisible

The new moon is the dark sky—a quiet beginning when possibility is fertile but unseen. Across traditions, this time is associated with planting seeds, setting intentions, and listening inwardly. It’s the perfect moment to plant things that cannot be seen yet: a boundary you’re ready to hold, a practice you’re willing to learn, a pattern you’re willing to release, a quality you’re willing to cultivate. We are not striving here; we are listening.

At House of AUM, our new moon circles honor this space of potential. Each gathering offers a gentle framework to reflect, envision, and begin again—whatever that may mean for the current season of your life.

Full Moon: Illumination & Integration

The full moon is illuminating—things are visible now. Sometimes that visibility feels like a celebration; sometimes it’s honest feedback. Either way, the light is a gift. The full moon circle is a time to witness what has grown, what wants harvesting, and what needs to be released so the cycle can continue with integrity.

Full moon work is not about perfection; it’s about integration—letting insight land so it becomes real in daily life. Our full moon circles hold space for that reflection. They are opportunities to pause, integrate, and reconnect with the wholeness of the cycle—the bright and the shadowed alike.

Why Gather by the Moon

Meeting under the moon connects us to rhythms larger than any schedule or device. The practice cultivates awareness of change as a natural constant and reminds us that rest and renewal are not luxuries but essential parts of life’s balance.

In community, this becomes more powerful. Sitting together in moonlight—or under its energy—helps dissolve the illusion of separateness. We remember that our lives, bodies, and moods are part of an ecosystem that continually moves, ebbs, and renews.

A Living Tradition

Our circles are guided intuitively by experienced facilitators whose styles evolve with time and season. No two gatherings are ever identical—nor should they be. Each one responds to the current moon, the people present, and the energy of that moment.

While approaches may differ, the essence remains: to open and close sacred space, to honor the phases of the moon, and to reconnect with the natural world through reflection and presence.

Astrology & Influence

Each full and new moon carries its own energetic signature, shaped by the zodiac sign in which it occurs. This adds subtle texture to the themes of each gathering—some moons feel grounding and earthy, others emotional or expressive. We keep it practical and invitational, never prescriptive. If astrology is new to you, this is a gentle place to meet it. If you’re seasoned, you’ll recognize the archetypal threads.

How These Circles Support Real Life

Moon work is not an escape from life—it’s a way of living it more honestly. Over time, regular attendance tends to:

  • Strengthen self-trust (you hear yourself more clearly).

  • Increase emotional regulation (you meet intensity with skill, not urgency).

  • Clarify priority and purpose (you waste less energy on what isn’t yours).

  • Deepen belonging (you remember you’re part of something larger than your to-do list).

These are not abstract ideals but lived experiences that grow with each gathering.

Accessibility & Inclusivity

House of AUM welcomes sincere participants of all backgrounds and experience levels. You don’t need to “know how” to participate in a ritual. You don’t need specific beliefs. You need only a willingness to listen—to yourself, to the group, and to the hum of the natural world.

If certain practices are unfamiliar, we’ll define terms briefly so the ritual remains open rather than exclusive. If you’re ever unsure how to participate, simply sit, breathe, and witness. Participation is always invitational—you bring what feels right for you. Some come to listen, some to share, and others simply to be in the energy of the moon. Every approach is valid. Presence is participation.

Circles aren’t therapy, but they are therapeutic in the sense that they emphasize nervous-system safety: consent around sharing, permission to pass, and pacing that respects the group. Our facilitators lead with clarity and warmth, and we close each circle in a way that helps you re-enter your evening feeling grounded.

What to Bring

There’s nothing you need to bring to participate fully; everything essential is already within you. That said, most participants find it helpful to bring:

  • A journal and pen

  • Water or tea for yourself

  • An optional snack for grounding afterward

Everything else you truly need—your breath, your attention, your care—you already have.

If You Feel Called, Join a Circle

If the moon has been tugging at your attention—or if you’re simply curious about a slower, kinder rhythm—consider joining us for a circle. Come once, or come regularly, and let the practice accumulate. The moon keeps time either way; we just learn to listen.

If you feel drawn to align with lunar rhythms or explore nature-based spirituality within community, we welcome you. Our Full & New Moon Circles are held each lunar cycle on the studio floor at House of AUM.
